Do you have a clear cancellation policy?

March 27, 2018

Source: Ynet

On Facebook, there has been a small storm over the last few weeks over the issue of restaurant cancellations at the last minute.

It is not clear whether the flare-ups indicate a rise in the phenomenon in Israel, or a revival of the restaurateurs who absorb it over time.

It may be that the subject floated in intensity after the discovery of a Facebook group called ‘cancel invitations between friends’, which revealed an ugly tactic of customers;

In a busy evening, for example, Valentine’s Day, you can book a number of restaurants at the same time and only at the last minute decide which one to go to. Needless to say, the other three actually suffer a financial loss.

A brief examination at Google reveals that this is a recognized global phenomenon, which is very characteristic of the big cities in the world, where recreation in restaurants is a basic cultural element.

What is the solution? Professional magazines of restaurateurs recommend a clear policy of cancellation fees.

Selected Quote

“It’s not possible that a person orders something and just does not announce that he is canceling it, and if you cancel, it has a price and I think there should be a NIS 50 compensation for the table.”
