The Waiters Retirement Revolution in Israel: The public debate ignores the professionals

April 16, 2018

On March 26, 2018, the National Labor Court of Israel accepted a ruling that, according to all the experts, is expected to change the face of the restaurant industry in Israel, and will also affect certain parts of the hotels and events industry.

The court ruled that as of January 2019, the income of waiters preachers would be considered as the restaurant’s income, and therefore the waiters would pay taxes on them and the employer would include them in calculations for social benefits.

Most of the public discussion was conducted around the young waiters segment, which is characterized by high turnover. For restaurants and top-level hospitality businesses, many of which employ professional waiters and keep low turnover, of course, to take on additional meanings. For example, when regular waiters are in the deposit deposit ceilings.

In addition, there are close relations between regular guests and regular service providers in the prestigious hospitality institutions.
