For decades, Albania was under a harsh communist regime that oppressed the inhabitants and the economy. In fact, with the collapse of the Iron Curtain and the Westernization of the Eastern European countries and the countries of influence of the former Yugoslavia, Albania remained a lonely island of communism.
But things are moving and Albania is moving west. One of the things that happens is openness to tourism. Albania sees the blossoming of its neighbors, Croatia and Montenegro, which have become popular tourist destinations and want, too.
In December 2017, the Albanian government decided to encourage tourism initiatives, with an emphasis on 4 and 5 star accommodations, and now Albania joins a number of preferred destinations in the investor community.
